Debra Overbey

It is with incredible heartache that we announce the passing of Debra Marie Overbey on January 27th, 2025 at only 67 years of age. She was surrounded by family in her final moments at Redmond Medical Center in Rome, GA.

Known to most as Debbie, she was born March 14th, 1957 in Elmhurst, IL to Millicent Scott (Cvitichonin) and Lloyd Scott. She came into this world a fighter, born almost 3 months early at only 2lbs 10 oz. She continued this trend of resiliency throughout her life. She worked from age 14 to 67, spending almost 20 years at Motorola and often working 2 jobs, while still finding time to raise a blended family and complete college courses. 

At age 20 she gave birth to her first child, Brenda. At 26, she met the love of her life, Darrell. After months of flirting, Darrell finally convinced Debbie to join him for a Johnny Lee concert…and the rest was history. They were married May 23rd, 1986 which officially melded their families. Debbie embraced and loved her newest children DJ, Brett, and Andrea. In 1988 Debbie gave birth to their daughter Tiffany, and their family was complete. 

In her 30s and 40s, she enjoyed thrill seeking activities such as skydiving, riding motorcycles and rollercoasters. She also liked to relax with a good book, listen to country music, visit with family and friends, and take care of her pets. 

For the last 15 years of her life Debbie lived in Adairsville, GA with her husband, their “puppies” (Elwood, Andy, and Patches), and cat (Zombie), all of whom brought her tremendous joy. 

Debbie was a kind and compassionate person who always put others' needs above her own; she and Darrell opened their hearts and home to multiple friends, family members, and even stray animals over the years. 

Debbie never stopped making friends, even at the end of her life she was making connections with hospital staff- laughing, joking, sharing stories, and exchanging phone numbers. 

Above all, Debbie truly loved her family. She was very proud of all her children and grandchildren, in her last days saying these were her greatest accomplishments, along with her marriage to Darrell. Her legacy of kindness, love, and compassion is carried on by everyone whose life she touched. 

Debra is survived by her husband, Darrell Robert Overbey Sr., siblings Lynn Payne, Cheryl Ann (George) Yapp, Loydeen Sue (Russell) Reichman, and David Lloyd Scott. As well as her children, Darrell Robert (Traci) Overbey Jr., Brett Michael Overbey (Belinda Lucy), Brenda Ann Ries nee Boettge (Wade Van Ommering), Andrea Dawn Overbey, and Tiffany Marie Overbey (Kenneth Hardester). Grandchildren Kathleen, Andrew, Gregory, Tessa, Krysta, Jacob, Breanna, Grace, Abigail, Rachel, Riley, Sadie, and one great grandchild, Rowan. 

Debbie is preceded in death by her mother Millicent Scott (Cvitichonin), her father Lloyd Edward Scott, and beloved pets.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Acworth, GA. Family and friends will be notified once details are finalized.
