Susie Owsley

Susie Mae Cooks/Washington was born on July 17, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Rosia Jones and Alex Washington. She was the youngest of five siblings by her mother. She was a basketball cheerleader and graduated in 1967 from Arlington High School in Arlington, IN. Susie attended Indiana State University with a major in journalism. She met her husband, Byron Owsley in college, where he called her his "Little Lady."
Byron and Susie married on February 8, 1971, followed by the birth of their son, Byron Owsley II, on June 6th. After college, she was a receptionist for ABC Channel 6 WRTV before her family relocated to Atlanta, GA. While working in Personnel for the City of Atlanta, the couple welcomed their daughter, Prema. Susie enjoyed holidays and birthdays, along with sharing her talents in poetry and baking.
Susie spent the majority of her career as an office manager for the Department of Human Services of the State of Georgia. Afterwards, she worked seasonally for the IRS before leaving the workforce to reside in Gwinnett county, GA.
Susie joins her late son, Byron Owsley II, parents, brother Stoney Cooks and sister Pearl Cooks. She is survived by her husband Byron, daughter Prema, sisters Adell Pace and Ida Cooks, DIL Robyn, beloved nieces/nephews, best friend JoAnne Betts; and many more extended family members.
